Lost 40lb lab mix - Dallas

Everyone - please share everywhere you can - please print out the flyer and post widely - Lucy recently had surgery for a prolapsed bladder and she has been without the medication that helps her pee since Friday. If she cnnot go obviously she is at a high risk of her bladder prolapsing again. Also, there is the fact that she could easily freeze to death tonight, so this is of critical urgency!!!

Lucy went missing at 6pm on 12/21 from the Fitzhugh/Travis Street area (in Dallas). We have had two search dogs/pet detectives come out to help us find her so we think she is heading SW, perhaps towards the location where we originally rescued her in W. Dallas near Singleton/Vilbig. She's about 40 lbs, is friendly but cautious and may still be wearing a red collar and dragging a red leash. Please do not approach her. We have posted signs from Knox down South along Cole, McKinney, Travis, etc through the West Village and Uptown areas. We are thankful for all of the volunteers who have come out to help post signs and hand out flyers. Blind Puppy at Dallas Animal Services Needs a New Home

Can anyone help this little girl? She was adopted yesterday but the owner’s changed their mind when they found out she was blind. We did go ahead and spay her. Justice's Case Update

Judge Larry Mitchell denied the defense attorneys’ motions to sever; therefore, all four defendants will stand trial together. The defendants were in the courtroom, and were led back to jail after the hearing. The trial has already been reset for March 18, 2013. This date, too, could change, but I’ll let you know as we get closer to it.

Five TV stations and The Dallas Morning News, along with other media, were in the courtroom to cover the hearing, and KRLD, WBAP and KERA also did stories. We are successfully getting the word out about animal cruelty and the fact that it will be investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Wed., Dec. 19 - 9 a.m.: Hearing in Justice's case

A hearing in the animal cruelty case of Justice, the puppy set on fire in Dallas earlier this year, is set for Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 9 a.m. in the 292^nd District Court on the 6^th floor of the Frank Crowley Courts Building, 133 N. Riverfront Blvd. in Dallas.

The hearing will determine whether the four defendants—Adrian Ayers, Darius Carey, Darius Ewing and Richard Valentine—will be tried separately or in a joint trial.

It’s expected that all four defendants will appear with their attorneys and that the judge, the Hon. Larry Mitchell, will take some live testimony.

* Please attend if you can and show your support of the Dallas County District Attorney’s fight against animal cruelty and to send the message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated. *

TIPS FOR ATTENDING A TRIAL OR HEARING AT THE FRANK CROWLEY COURTS BUILDING: The building is cash only for parking, cafeteria and snack machines. Parking is $6 cash in two parking garages adjacent to the Courts building, and there are several lots across the street. Dress is business attire, and no clothing or badges with slogans are allowed in the courtroom. Also, no cameras (other than cell/smartphones), nail files or spray bottles (i.e., hair spray) are allowed in the building.

Dallas Animal Services - Sweet Goober

Dallas Animal Services has a little boy that is in need of your help. His name is Goober! He is a 2 year old, possible pit mix. Goober has demodex mange, which makes it very hard to determine what breed he is. He has spots like a dalmation and a lab-y head. Goober weighs a whopping 65.8lbs! He is submissively sweet and loves people. Goober is a little shy and is not used to walking on a leash. With a little coaxing he will follow you anywhere! We have begun treatment for the demodex as well as the secondary skin infection caused by the mites. He also has entropion of the eyelids. We believe this is due to the skin infections but it will be hard to tell until he is treated.

I would like to take the time to point out that demodex is not contagious and is treatable. Demodex is just a little mite that lives on dogs. It does not even like people and is dog specific. Goober’s mites only like Goober! Don’t let Goober loose a second chance at life because he was nice enough to give these mites a home. He didn’t know that they would be rude and take over his whole body!

Meet Jayda!

Jayda

Jayda is just over 3 Years old. Her owner adopted her when she was 8 weeks old. At that time she had her first set of shots, dew claws removed and tail docked. She is half American Rotty and Half German Rotty, she is gorgeous with dark mahogany markings and jet black everywhere else with a smooth short coat. She is spayed, up to date on shots and heart worm medicine, she does not have any medical conditions, she is not allergic to anything and she weighs about 85 lbs.

Jayda is currently lives with another male Rotty who is about 10 years old, but she tends to be the dominant one. She has never been around cats, but has grown up living with her owner's 7 year old son since he was 5 and is very good with him.

Jayda is house broken and crate trained, she knows basic commands like, sit, wait, lay down, and responds well to treat commands. Once hearing the word “crate,” Jayda will run in her crate and wait for a treat. She absolutely loves to swim and would do great in a home with a pool and backyard to run and play! While Jayda is good with kids, she is a larger dog and can be very energetic. Adults will need to make sure she does not knock over smaller children.

A few times in the past Jayda has shown some resource guarding behaviors and she does need to wear a muzzle when at the vet. Given the behaviors she has shown in the past, her new owner should be confident and willing to invest time in Jayda's exercise and training.

Unfortunately Jayda's her current owner is not in a position to work on her behavior. With regular exercise, consistent training and care, this sweet girl has the potential to be a wonderful long-term companion.

Everyone meet Milo! He is a very sweet 11 month old Labrador. He has a very calm and sweet disposition. He loves getting attention. Milo also has issues with his hind legs. His left hind leg he is “toe touching” lame. He will put some weight on it but not very much. We think it may be hip dysplasia but we are not sure. He does not appear to be in pain when we examine the area. Without x-rays we do not know for sure what is causing his lameness. Even with all this, Milo is a happy loving puppy. All he knows is that he loves being around people and wants a home that he can call his own! Please help Milo to get his wish!

This is Luther the Labrador! He is a sweet boy who came to us after being hit by a car. He is about 6 years old and is full of love! He is doing very well, has not problems walking or anything. He does have areas on his legs of hair loss that we believe were caused by the accident (road rash). He is just a gentle giant and is hoping someone can help him!

This big boy is named Hampton! He is about 1.5 years old. He is a very smart boy and full of energy. Hampton is currently available for adoption. We are just sending him out to all of our transfer partners because he is a very special boy! He is very smart and is a lab that will need someone who can work him. He already knows how to sit and will easily learn where you hide your treats and help himself! He is a wonderful dog but for some people, he may be too smart. He is a perfect dog and needs a home that will appreciate his intelligence and drive!

This boy is named Julius. He is still currently under his stray hold but he will become available on 12/7/12. He is a super sweet and loving lab that just needs some help finding a good home. While in his kennel he is calm but will wag his tail as fast as he can! All he wants is attention and a person to call his own!

This sweet girl is named Rose. This little girl has a strong spirit! With all she has had to endure through life, she is doing a wonderful job raising her little babies. Please don’t let it all be in vain. She has the cutest personality. She is gentle yet gets so excited when you come to say hi. All she wants in the world is someone to love her like she loves her babies! Her pups are the cutest little things ever. They are getting to the age where they are moving but are still awkward. It is so much fun watching them start to play! They do have demodex mange which is not contagious and is curable. Rose still needs a little time but once her hair comes back she will be a great addition to any family (even with her hair loss she is still great…remember beauty is on the inside!). This sweet momma is named Star, she is a star momma and loves her puppies! She is super friendly and will let anyone come in and play with her little babies. She loves to get attention and loves to show off her children. Her little babies are adorable! Most of them have little terrier whiskers. Who knows what daddy may have been, all we can say is they made cute babies. Momma is taking such great care of them. They are healthy and happy, they just need time to grow and more time to be with their mom. We need your help to allow that to happen. Please help this wonderful family.

Shopping for cruelty free products can be difficult. I recently found an app, called Cruelty Free, that easily lets you search by product type and company name to find out if a product is cruelty-free. Sadie: Adopted!

Sadie has been with her loving foster parents for almost two years. Her foster family is committed to finding her a home with adequate space for her to run and exercise. If you are interested in meeting Sadie please contact Meagan at mwells1474@gmail.com or 817-992-1677.

Sadie's Story:

Sadie was found running back and forth across a busy street close to our house almost two years ago. We took her in and have found that Sadie is a sweet, loving, energetic, happy dog. She was not micro-chipped nor did she have tags so she became part of our family and has been a big part of it ever since then. We believe Sadie is around 3 years old and was told she is probably part pit bull, part weimaraner and could maybe even have some boxer in her. She is currently 55-58 lbs.

Sadie is current on all shots (paperwork available), she takes her monthly heart worm and flea/tick medicine and as long as you give her lots of exercise, she's ready to go! She has had some training and knows the basics (sit, down, "leave it", etc.).

Sadie is gentle (but very strong) and is fabulous with our 10 month old son. She is tender with him and lets him poke and prod her to death, practically. Since she has such a muscular build and is very energetic, sometimes her excitement can get the best of her though and she can take off across the room barely missing him. However, she is easily calmed and we have never felt the need to keep Sadie and our son apart. She loves him and recognizes the need to be gentle around him and has never, not even once, made us question whether or not he is safe with her.

Sadie gets along great with our two little dogs (4 and 7 lbs). She has not had a lot of interaction with other dogs outside our home though. On the few walks we have taken with her, she seems to get real excited when she sees another dog--but excited like she wants to play and "rough house" not attack or fight. She does need some training and work on a leash and more exposure should help with that--we have just been incapable of giving that to her.

The best kind of home for Sadie would be one that has a lot of room for her to run--which ours does not. If she had a large yard with space to roam and explore, she would be the happiest dog on earth. She enjoys being outside and working off her energy--but can also live inside (which she does now in the evenings, night, etc.).

Sadie will make some family a very happy family. She deserves the best but an element of that "best" is room and space. She's cramped in our home and that's not fair to her. This was a very hard decision for our family but we know it's what's best--and we have to honor her with that.

Dallas Animal Services: Mama Dogs and Babies in Desperate Need of Getting Out

These are dogs and their puppies have been at Dallas Animal Services for almost a month and are need to be adopted quickly. Please share this post to help spread the word so they can all find loving homes. All of these dogs must be adopted by Monday, October 15, 2012.

This mom is very sweet, and her babies are doing really well. She has been at DAS since September 16; DAS has some money donated for whatever group pulls this group. The mom is highly adoptable, and will let us go in with the pups whenever we need to. Due to time and space, she has to get out of DAS by the close of business on Monday, October 15, 2012.

Special Case - Euthanasia Date Tuesday, Sept 12th.

This sweet boy and is such a unique color! He is a year old, Labrador mix who weighs about 29lbs. He is heart worm negative!! He came in covered with ticks and fleas, which we have treated. His hair is beginning to look shinier and much better than the day he came in J We are hoping that someone can help him so he can have a happy ending! Please don’t let this poor boy get euthanized because he was cruelly treated for no reason!! He still has faith in humanity, please show him that it is not in vain!

The City of Dallas municipal judge who handles animal cruelty seizure cases has ruled that this poor dog was treated cruelly, and he awarded custody to Dallas Animal Services. Yet, despite all this sad fellow has been through, the court ordered that he be euthanized next Tuesday, Sept. 12, unless a rescue steps up and saves his life.

Several of us have been working for years to get the City of Dallas to simply follow State law and award custody to DAS without exclusions or deadlines—and not make life-and-death decisions from the bench based on recommendations by the City prosecutor. In the meantime, though, animals like this poor boy are given just days to be rescued—or face death after a lifetime of suffering.

This is a basset hound mix named Shiloh. He is about a year old. He is adorable!!! He will chase his tail and just wants attention. When you first meet him he is a little fearful but once he gets to know ya he warms up. He just needs someone who can help him gain some confidence! Please help this boy!!!

She is available to pull asap! This one had been tagged but the group came to evaluate and this dog could not go to the home they had available. She was just a little too fearful and would not have been a good fit. She is just a little shy, she would do well once in a home.
