Rehoming Ruby

Ruby is a 2 year old lab mix that needs a new home.  Her current family is sad to find her a new home, but they believe it is best for her.  They got Ruby at 6 weeks old and love her dearly, but with 4 young daughters and another dog, Ruby's energy level and size are too much to handle.  She needs a family that has space for her to exercise, very active outdoors or could take her to a dog park to play daily. She just needs to work out her energy. A tired dog is a good dog!

Ruby is in good health, spayed and housebroken.  She is super gentle and loves kids and other animals (minus squirrels and birds). Her current family has 4 kids under the age of 9, another dog (pit bull mix) and she has been great with everyone.  She loves balls, fetch, the park, running off the leash, ATTENTION, snuggling, playing.  She doesn't like loud noises such as thunder or hammering.

If you would like more information on Ruby please contact Mandy Mack at 469.396.9906 or mandymack22@yahoo.com.

Operation: Save Poptart

THE POPTART STORY: Originally posted at http://rescuepoptartfromafghanistan.chipin.com/operation-save-poptart

A message from Poptart:

My name is Poptart and I am currently in Kabul, Afghanistan. I have grown up here on my own for the past three years. About 6 months ago, some US Soldiers found me and have been taking care of me ever since. I spend a lot of time with them and we share a special bond together. Before they came, I would spend my days dodging the Afghans who constantly throw rocks at me. Now the Soldiers protect me and keep the bad guys away. Before, I would pick through piles of trash to get enough scraps to fill me up. Now the Soldiers bring me their leftovers and my belly has been full ever since. Before, I would spend cold winter nights looking for shelter. Now they have made me a dog house and filled it with blankets that keep me warm at night. I am so grateful to them for all they have done for me. They will be leaving in a few months to go back to the US and they would like me to go with them, but I need some help. They say it will cost $2500 for shipping and handling and to an Afghan dog, that's a lifetime of savings. If you know anyone who could help, I would forever be indebted. They have promised me a warm home and a happy life, if I can only find a way to get there.

Our take on it:

The day to day life in combat takes its toll on all Soldiers. We are no exception. The best part of every day here in Afghanistan, is knowing we can spend time with Poptart. She is more than a dog, she is a companion and a friend. She has brought joy to our lives and given us something to look forward to each and every day. She is always happy to see us and never leaves our side. It would break our hearts if we had to leave her here in Kabul. We are asking for your help to get her back to the US. Please consider giving a small donation. Your help would save her life and enrich ours.

Brave Monkey Needs Medical Funds & Forever Home

Monkey is looking for a forever home and someone to help pay for his medical care. At the end of 2010 Monkey was not having a good year, he was homeless, suffering from a broken pelvis and dislocated hip after being hit by a car. Fortunately a good citizen took Monkey to the doctor, who performed surgery so he could walk again. So, 2011 is looking up for Mr. Monkey! Monkey would love to find a home and someone who can help cover his medical costs.

Monkey is around 2-4 years old and currently living in Oklahoma City, OK.  He is a dachsund mix (maybe chihuahua?).  He is not neutered yet, but will be in about 5 days.  He has so far gotten along well with other dogs, is not a fan of cats, and hasn't been tested with children.  His house training is going well and should improve once we get those terrible testicles off!  He is a sweet boy, but has typical chihuahua attitude tends to be a bit dominant. Monkey definitely needs some one who will do some training so he doesn't let those dominant traits take over.

If you are interested in helping Monkey and the Vet Clinic that took him in, please contact Carey Bachman at careydvm@gmail.com or 918.520.5622.

Stray Dog Looking for Foster/Forever Home

This sweet dog was found wandering in traffic but  was saved by a good samaritan. Her foster family is currently working on obedience and kennel training with this girl in hopes to get her ready for her forever home. The vet said she is very healthy and about three months old, Lab/Shepard mix, will be medium to large dog, and current on shots.

Sadly, her foster family is not able to care for her much longer as they have exhausted their resources. If you know anyone or you are interested in becoming her foster or adopting her please contact Mary Cornelius at mhcorn75@hotmail.com or 817-386-2969.

Dumpster Doggies

The morning of January 3rd, these two terriers were found by a dumpster. Someone left them in the crate next to the dumpster, as if they were trash. It breaks my heart to think someone could value life so little. Both dogs seem very sweet. Please contact Alison if you can foster or know someone that can adopt at a.gillespie@herman-johns.com or 214.741.1912 ext 109.
